Quebec - Day 5, Epilogue
Our sojourn in Quebec concludes today and we drive back to Maine.
There are many ways to understand what "travel" means, as there are reasons and motivations for traveling
As you consider what it means for you, I will share what it means for me.
Often we lack the words to express and share what we feel and what we think.
Travel is a portal that offers the opportunity to step out of our comfort zone and when one travels with a travel companion, it often happens that the "me" and "you" transmutes into a "we".
Self awareness dissolves and we feel as strings of a violin, in an orchestra where the other musical instruments are trees, flowers, mountains, river's, lakes, waterfalls the sky and clouds, all joined in performing a symphony of, and with nature.
Can you visualize s symphony where the melody evokes the mood and atmosphere of each scene along the bicycling and hiking route?
*I. Steep Climb (Allegro con brio)*
- Rising arpeggios in strings and woodwinds to convey effort and struggle
- Insistent ostinato in brass to represent the steady pedal stroke

*II. Speedy Descent (Prestissimo, scherzando)*
- Fast, whirling scales in strings and woodwinds to evoke a sense of exhilaration
- Light, staccato chords in brass to create a feeling of weightlessness
- Polytonality to convey the thrill and uncertainty of the ride
*III. Pedaling among Trees and Flowers (Andante, pastorale)*
- Gentle, lilting melody in woodwinds to evoke a sense of serenity
- Soft, muted strings to create a sense of dappled shade

- Sudden, dramatic fortissimo to evoke the roar of the waterfall
- Turbulent, chromatic passages in strings and woodwinds to convey the power and energy
- Use of tremolo and glissando to create a sense of spray and mist
*VI. Birds (Scherzo, vivace)*
- Quick, darting motifs in woodwinds to evoke the birds' flight
- Light, staccato chords in brass to create a sense of playfulness
- Use of call-and-response patterns to convey the birds' conversation
*VII. Final Ascent (Maestoso, con grandezza)*
- Broad, sweeping melody in strings to evoke a sense of triumph and accomplishment
- Fanfare-like motifs in brass to create a sense of celebration
- Use of contrapuntal techniques to convey a sense of unity and shared experience.
This symphony would be a thrilling and varied journey, using a wide range of musical techniques and styles to evoke the mood and atmosphere of each scene.
